BEIJING: China's President Xi Jinping on Friday secured a precedent-breaking third five-year term as president and maintained his supremacy as a powerful leader of China after Mao Zedong.

He got the votes of about 30,000 members of China's rubber-stamp parliament, the National People's Congress (NPC), and won the election while there was no candidate in opposition.

Voting was completed in an hour and counting took about 15 minutes.
